Nova Scotia experiences frequent and prolonged power outages, especially during the winter months. The client asked us to create a space with a secondary heat source that would help withstand these outages, as well as a study space for their young children that would be connected with their main living area.
Our solution was inserting a wood stove and built-in bench that fit with the house’s current aesthetic and fitting a multi-use study and lounge space out of an unused area underneath the staircase. In this space, a day bed for lying and reading was crafted that easily transforms into a small desk.
